Survival Guide Tip #1 - Patience

With the distortion of today's mass media giants we get the impression that every month a new musical artist has struck it big over night. Magically, their songs reach Top 10 on the charts and they are famous for life. They are seen on TV and magazines across the globe. But behind every sucess story no matter how seemingly sudden it took A LOT of work to get there. You cannot sit around and wait for sucess to happen to you. You have to make sucess happen to you.

The first tip of the Artist Survival Guide is Patience becuase in the music industry to do something right is to be patient and make sure everything is perfect. Popular recording artists such as Taylor Swift, Kevin Rudolf, David Guetta, and the Black Eyed Peas normally take about 2-3 months to release a new hit. The key word there is HIT. These recording artists are already famous, they already have their fanbase, and they already have their repuation of releasing great music. Even with said traits even the best recording artists and producers do not always release a hit. Yes, even the elite must be patient with their work.  The average recording session for a single track takes 16 hours or more.  On top of that once songs are recorded it takes upwards to around 6-8 hours to properly master an album.  From recording, to mastering, releasing, to marketing you as the artist must be patient.

So how can an artist without a very large fanbase, and without a global reputation make it big? To be honest, some never will. That is just the way the world works. But some, have the ambition, the skill, the knowledge, the presistance and the patience to achieve their musical goals. Whether your goals are to just make a solid living, or make it in the tabloids every month you need to be patient.  Good things do not come to those who wait, but to those who are patient.
